Artist found....check
Finally scoped out this artist that I saw from the Design Indaba expo in 2011..
Tanya Laing is a young ceramicist who's producing INCREDIBLE work known as 'sootcookie', afrikaans for sweet biscuit (apparently) :). She was quite the talk of the expo. Check out her stuff :) .. http://sootcookie.withtank.com/

The heritage of our beautiful buildings...
I' m so privileged to have met and have had a 'sit down chat' with Mr Bryan Wintermeyer yesterday.
This chairman of the Mandela Bay Heritage Trust (MBHT) really defined the historical and heritage value of my chosen buildings this year- The Donkin Street Row Houses.
Its so amazing how simply just 45minutes out of one's day can change your opinion on the challenging subject matter and just motivate your decision making and believe in yourself.
Now I know I'm on the right track in terms of designing a more feasible function of these National Monuments.

Good morning Restoration
Another day for continuous research followed by creative writing..
..I never really considered myself a writer, or even a reader for that matter,
until I realised it was the incorrect subject matter that made me so despondent to
the whole idea of it.
I'm in the motion, currently of researching the act of restoration, preservation and conservation-
a subject that i really have grown quite found of. I met with one of the great historians of Port Elizabeth,
and it turns out that the building i have chosen let alone the street in which it is placed, is one of the most important in terms of historical value to South Africa (no pressure there :/) ..So I knew then that I needed sufficient research of this topic..
..To cut to the chase-- Never judge a book by its cover! I have found the most interesting and in actual fact-that condemned as {life lessons} from this tattered little one.
I discovered that one of the greatest approaches to successful restoration is just the act of the building being true to itself..true to its age..
Which leaves me with -my quote of the day- from this book of knowledge:
" No work is worth doing, unless it is authentic"- Dr Mary Cook.
